Several Google Pixel and Pixel XL owners are complaining about certain issues with the devices' microphones. There are reports claiming that the audio input is entirely disabled in some cases.

At present, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL are among the popular Android smartphones on the market. However, this does not spare them of experiencing issues. Since their release, several issues were already reported including audio problems, Bluetooth connectivity issues, unresponsiveness, camera freezing and lens flaring, among others.

The most recent issue affecting Google Pixel and Pixel XL owners now include the smartphones' microphones. In the Google Support forum thread reveals severe microphone issues where it appears that many users are experiencing similar inconvenience. In addition, other owners took to Reddit their complaints.

In total, the Google Pixel has three microphones, this issue, however, can most likely disable audio input altogether. Possible causes for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL microphone issues include a hairline crack in the microphone component soldering, or possibly a faulty microphone. On their part, Google says that both scenarios mentioned are exceptionally rare, affecting less than 1 percent of all Pixel and Pixel XL users.

The microphone issue is found to be a hardware problem and entails more headaches. A software issue can be fixed with a software update or a modest patch, a hardware problem, however, requires repairing or replacing the handset. According to some reports, the microphone issues happens only once or twice and will soon disappear with the influence of external factors.

At this time, Google has yet to identify the single cause for the Pixel and Pixel XL microphone issues. However, it does advise that accidental drops could be a part of the blame for the device problems. And because this is a hardware problem, Google recommends that affected users send in their defective devices in order to get a free replacement.
