Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date: The Next Galaxy S Smartphone To Launch Without Bixby Voice?
Vinay PatelWhile the huge Galaxy fanbase continues waiting with bated breath for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ smartphones' looming arrival, it looks like they'll be in for a huge disappointment when the handsets finally hit the store shelves.
It's no secret that Samsung's next flagship smartphones will be trying to amend the company's rundown reputation and lure back those who abandoned the lineup amidst the Note 7 debacle. Lining with this, tech pundits have been hazarding all sorts of guesses regarding the upcoming smartphones key specifications including the Galaxy S8's virtual assistant.
But much to their chagrin, Samsung's new voice-activated assistant known as Bixby may not exactly be something to shout about after all. Apparently, Bixby will be unable to respond to voice request when the Galaxy S8 launches later this month, the South Korean handset maker confirmed to TIME on Wednesday, April 12.
But smartphone enthusiasts who have been clamoring for the next Galaxy S smartphone should not give up hopes just yet. Bixby's capability to respond to voice requests will be coming to the Galaxy S8 later this spring, while rest of the virtual assistant's features will be available when the phone hits the store shelves on April 21. This shred of revelation was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Aside from the Galaxy S8's nearly borderless screen and compatibility with a dock that transforms the phone into a desktop computer, Samsung has been trotting out its new Bixby digital helper as one of the S8's selling points. However, the Journal reported that the English language version of Bixby's voice recognition technology failed to match the Korean version in terms of performance during internal tests.
Details regarding the exact reason behind the delay are hard to come by but as Engadget pointed to Samsung's statement that confirms, Bixby, with key features such as Vision, Home and Reminder will be up for grabs on April 21 amidst the Galaxy S8's worldwide launch. However, US-based consumers will have to wait until later this spring to delve into this much-talked about feature of the Galaxy S8 smartphone.
