Apple has confirmed that it will indeed be releasing its next generation iMac all-in-one desktop computers this year. However, the company surprised a lot of fans when it announced that it will be released a new high-end "server-grade" version of the iMac created specifically for graphic and creative professionals.

According to a report from Yahoo Tech, the "Pro" version will be created on top of the typical 21.5-inch and 27-inch model iMacs. The unit will reportedly have some beefier internal hardware compared to the standard models along with some possible new features.

A report from Blasting News reveals that the upcoming 2017 "Pro" iMac may be coming with Intel's yet-to-be-announced Xeon E3-1285 v6 server-grade processor. The high-end Kaby Lake-based processor is built using a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process and is Intel's latest generation offering.

The powerful new processor will reportedly be paired with up to 64GB of error-correcting (ECC) RAM. The high-end and expensive RAM differs from standard DDR RAM as it is able to auto-correct its memory allowing for more accurate computing for scientific calculations and intense graphics renders.

To streamline all that data, the high-end iMac will reportedly be coming with up to 2 TB of NVMe SSD storage, which offers blazing fast read and write speeds. The new iMacs are also said to be coming with the "latest discrete graphics card," which Apple didn't really expound on. The company currently has a contract with AMD, which means that an AMD GPU may end up on all iMac models for this year as well.

All of the iMacs are expected to be coming with various new apps, Thunderbolt 3 ports, and USB Type-C connectivity. There are also rumors that are circulating regarding Apple's plans to develop a new type of keyboard for the upcoming iMacs. Apple apparently wants to integrate its new Touch Bar and Touch ID sensors into the new keyboard. The 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs are expected to be released sometime between August and October. The high-end version, on the other hand, may be coming at the tail end of 2017.
