Xiaomi is on the verge of launching a new Redmi branded smartphone in India. Despite the lack of an official announcement, the rumor mill has been pointing to looming arrival of the highly anticipated Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime.

Xiaomi India VP Manu Kumar Jain took to his Twitter handle (@manukumarjain) on Friday, May 5 to announce the popular handset maker's next device. Touted as "the second BIG announcement of the month," the cryptic tweet advises smartphone enthusiasts to stay tuned for more updates using #PowerInYourHand.

While nothing is set in stone as far as exactly which phone Xiaomi is gearing up to launch in the country, TheIndianExpress suggests it is highly likely that the Beijing-based handset maker could launch the Redmi 4. The speculation stems from a previous confirmation that hinted at the impending arrival of the successor to Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime. Now, with a new Redmi device around the corner, it looks like Xiaomi fans will finally be able to get their hands on the Redmi 4 this month.

As if that weren't enough to sweep gadgets freaks in India off their feet, the company also announced the launch of the first Mi Home Store in the country, according to Gadgets 360. It will be an exclusive retail store that will feature an array of Xiaomi products including phone accessories, headphones aside from selling a wide range of Redmi and Mi devices.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 Specifications & Price

In terms of specifications, the Redmi 4 sports a 5-inch display with 720×1280 pixels resolution. Under the hood, it packs a 1.4Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor with Adreno 505. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The Redmi 4 houses a metal unibody form factor with curved 2.5D glass on the front. In terms of optics, it features a 13MP sensor geared with PDAF, flash on the back and a 5MP front shooter. It is backed by a robust 4100 mAh battery and sells for 699 yuan, which converts to about $101. The Redmi 4 runs on the older Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 8 on top.

Both the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime were launched in China in 2016. While the arrival of the Redmi 4 is highly likely, it remains to be seen if Xiaomi India will launch the Redmi 4 Prime along with it as well. Watch this space for more Xiaomi Redmi 4-related news and updates!
