As technology continues to develop, so will the devices that we use on a daily basis - just look at your mobile phone. A few years ago the trend was to have a flip phone, now the majority of mobile phones are touch screens and offer a lot more services than just being a phone. The same can be said for laptops and tablets. Another area that has hugely benefited from technological advancements are smart cameras.
Cameras used to be very simple, recording low-quality footage that would be stored on a video. Now, they can record in 4k, upload the footage directly to the cloud and have features like sound and light alarms or motion detection. More and more people are turning to smart cameras due to the benefits they bring and the additional security they offer.
So how do you link your smart camera to your system? Different smart cameras will have different types of connections. Below we look into the common configurations.
Many new smart cameras will allow connection through your wifi router. As long as your smart camera is near enough to pick up the wifi from your business or home, it should be able to operate well enough. Some smart cameras will require a certain level of speed and connection so make sure you check this before purchasing your smart camera. If you are not sure if your smart camera will pick up the wifi, you could go to the location that it will be and see if your phone picks it up. If your phone does, then chances are your camera will. When looking back at the footage your smart camera captures, make sure it hasn't got any computer vision problems.
Some smart cameras may need a smart box to allow them to connect to your system. The smart box should be provided by the manufacturer of your camera and what it does is act as a barrier for your camera to connect. You will power up the smart box near your router and then connect it to it via an ethernet cable. Once this is set up, you will then connect your smart camera to the smart box to enable the connection to your system. It's easily done and once connected you shouldn't need to do it again.
If your smart camera is not wireless, you may need to connect it directly to your router. This is easily done by using an ethernet cable. All you need to do is plug one end of the ethernet cable into the camera and then the other into your router. Once connected the camera should appear on your system. The only issue with using a direct connection is you will need the cables to be long enough for it to work.
Have you recently started to use a smart camera? What are the reasons you started using one and what benefits did you receive from it? Are there any preferred ways on how you connect your smart camera to your system? Let us know in the comment box below.
