Google Launches Gemini: GPT-4 Competitor Available Now

Google Launches Gemini: GPT-4 Competitor Available Now

Austin Jay

This week, there was some news about Google pushing back their plan for Gemini, but it wasn't true.

Google launched it today at the same time as new things for Pixel phones.

Gemini comes in different sizes, and you can even use a really big one on the Pixel 8 Pro on your device. The previous reports thought Google would hold off Gemini to see what OpenAI does with GPT-5, but Google had its own surprises.

Now, everyone can try out Gemini and see the new stuff for Pixels, too.

Google's Gemini

Google showed off its fantastic program, Gemini, which can do many cool things like talk, show pictures, play music or videos, and even write its code.

This new AI is meant to be better than OpenAI's GPT-4 and can do tests to prove how smart it is. It did better than humans on some tasks, which is incredible.

However, people must also wait for other groups to check their abilities.

Gemini works by mixing words and images, so you don't need other programs to understand pictures. While some worry about AI, Google promises Gemini will be safe and not cause harm. It was trained to avoid wrong ideas and dangerous content. They also want to make sure it only says what's true.

More real tests will show if it really can act nicely.

However, no one knows how good Gemini is with other languages besides English since its debut was just in one language. If Google wants to top GPT-4 and ensure safety, addressing more languages fully could set a new bar. But only time will tell through broader use and impartial review of what it can do.

What can Gemini Do?

Google's fresh AI project, Gemini, can understand and process images, videos, and sounds. This makes it way more powerful than older huge language models, which could only do text.

Gemini comes in three versions: Ultra, Pro, and Nano. Ultra is the biggest and can do the most, Pro is medium-sized but can also do incredible things, and Nano is smaller but works well.

From now on, Google's well-known chatbot Bard will use Gemini Pro. This will let Bard do harder thinking and planning. Also, a special version of Gemini Pro will be used in AlphaCode, Google's AI coding tool.

The most potent version is Gemini Ultra, and it'll be put in Bard and made available through a cloud program in 2024. This will give developers even more access to Gemini's strong skills.

Google bosses are excited about what Gemini can do. It will significantly affect many things, from chatbots and virtual assistants to code-making and science research.

The Pixel 8 Pro Will First Use Gemini Nano

The new Pixel 8 Pro is the first phone to use Gemini Nano, a fancy AI that will add new talk methods. At first, just for WhatsApp, Smart Reply will soon help in other apps, too.

In the coming year, Google wants Gemini Nano in more things it makes, like Search on the web, ads, and the Chrome browser. Tests show Gemini could change how Search works, making it more fun and letting you chat with it.

This follows Google telling us about Gemini and what it can do better than ChatGPT. Some of the first new features are summarizing recordings and smart replies in messaging apps. Google plans to integrate Gemini Nano into more of its products shortly.

As part of developing Gemini, it is even being tried to make Google Search a more interactive experience.
