Google's December update for the Pixel 8 Pro users brings a fresh option called Video Boost, which is available in the settings while in video mode.

Described by Google as an instrument to lift video quality, Video Boost refines lighting, stabilization, and definition. It seeks to improve video recordings even in bad conditions, promising better outcomes. In some places, it can help recordings look their best.

When activated, Google's Video Boost feature highlights Night Sight, HDR+, and Unblur for enhanced video quality, which is available for videos eligible for Google Photos backup.

While the initial recording remains instantly accessible on the device, the boosted edit may take time, possibly due to server-side editing.

Pixel 8 Pro owners were excited to show off Video Boost. Early feedback showed promising results, with some saying they were "amazed" by how it turned out. While a few missed chances to test it, others plan to explore Night Sight and tell about their experiences after trying the feature in different places, like capturing a clear night sky.

Video Boost improves the taking of videos at night.

However, the shaky movements remain. Although visible improvement is seen, one or two scenes may not exhibit complete brightness correction.

Google's processing also affects stabilization. It smooths over janky movements and may even correct framing.

Nevertheless, on the flip side, minutes at the beginning of the copied or processed clips can be changed or omitted. It is one of the most challenging aspects since they have to maintain the originality of the footage.

Exercising patience is crucial as Video Boost processing might take a considerable duration. While waiting for the enhancement, a 45-second video took around 2 hours to process, a delay that hopefully improves over time-despite the lengthy processing, comparing the original 4K/30 video with 10-bit HDR and the boosted version yields intriguing results.

Viewing the videos in Google Photos presents two options-original and boosted-showcasing the enhanced HDR levels in the Video Boost version.

While the standard video appears impressive, Video Boost introduces an astonishing HDR effect, strengthening the footage significantly. The comparison between the two versions demonstrates the notable impact of Video Boost on video quality.
