Rabbit Inc. set out on a mission to develop an incredibly user-friendly computer, resulting in the creation of the Rabbit r1, a compact gadget unveiled at CES 2024 that quickly gained popularity. The pocket-sized r1 aims to simplify tasks by eliminating the need for users to navigate mobile apps.

In collaboration with Swedish consumer electronics company Teenage Engineering, Rabbit designed the r1, showcasing its uniqueness reminiscent of Teenage Engineering's music creation equipment. Powered by Rabbit OS, a custom operating system equipped with a Large Action Model (LAM) that learns various platforms and interfaces, the r1 introduces a novel approach to computing with a natural language interface.

The Rabbit R1 AI Assistant

The Rabbit r1 can be trained to interact with apps and remember commands in its "rabbits" list, resembling a hardware version of a versatile digital assistant. Serving as a seamless interface between users and apps, the r1 prioritizes user-friendly interactions. Its features include a 2.88-inch touchscreen, analog scroll wheel, 360-degree rotating camera, far-field microphones, and a push-to-talk button for communication and command issuance.

A MediaTek Helio P35 SoC drives the device and comes with a SIM card slot, enhancing its functionality.

The Rabbit R1, a compact AI device designed to streamline app usage, has witnessed overwhelming demand, selling out its initial 10,000-unit production run within a day and exhausting a second batch of 10,000 units.

The startup, Rabbit, initially aimed for 500 devices sold on launch day.

Pre-orders from the first batch are set to ship in March. A third batch, available for preorder, anticipates deliveries between May and June 2024. Unveiled at CES, the R1 features a 2.88-inch touchscreen with Rabbit OS, employing a "Large Action Model" for versatile app control, enabling tasks like music playback, grocery shopping, and messaging through a unified interface. Users can also train the device for specific app interactions.

About The Rabbit R1

Jesse Lyu, the mind behind Rabbit, identified a familiar frustration - the hassle of switching between various smartphone apps. He conceptualized the Rabbit R1, a compact 115-gram device to address this. Operating on the Rabbit OS, described as a "personalized operating system through a natural language interface," it introduces the Large Action Model (LAM).

Unlike large language models, LAM is engineered to execute tasks efficiently and learn different platforms and interfaces. This allows users to seamlessly manage multiple apps on the R1, eliminating the need for constant app shuffling or repeated login inputs.

With a push-to-talk button and far-field microphone, users can command the R1, teaching it new instructions stored as "rabbits." This innovative approach simplifies the process of interacting with various applications. Priced at $200, the R1 boasts features such as a 2.88-inch touchscreen, analog scroll wheel, 360-degree rotational camera, Type-C charging port, and SIM card slot. Powered by a 2.3GHz MediaTek Helio P35 processor, it ensures all-day battery life.

Currently available for preorder, with shipments expected in March, the Rabbit R1 promises to revolutionize how users interact with their devices, offering a more intuitive and consolidated experience.
