iOS 18 Update: Will Your iPhone Make the Cut? Rumored Compatibility List Revealed
Austin JayAs Apple lovers prepare for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 release in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), everyone is keenly aware of which devices will be on the OS update radar. This article will reveal the possible devices that can upgrade with the new features of iOS 18 from the iPhones and iPads.
According to the latest leaks from a reliable source with a history of accurate build number disclosures, iOS 18 is expected to continue its support for a wide range of iPhone models. If the rumors hold true, the following iPhone models will be compatible with iOS 18:
This compatibility list aligns with Apple's commitment to providing extended software support, surpassing the duration promised by its Android counterparts. More importantly, devices such as 2020's iPhone XR and iPhone XS, which all come with the 2 year old A12 Bionic chipset, are all due to receive an iOS 18 update.

Even if the iPhones capture the attention, iPad owners can still feel excited about the release of the iPadOS 18. However, there is an exception for the iPad as the compatibility might differ in some models. If it remains true that iPadOS 18 will not offer support for the A10X Fusion chip, iPad models with this chip will be dropped.
This might affect the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch models of the first and second genaration awarded in 2017. Otherwise, the regular A10 Fusion chip-equipped models, sixth-generation, and seventh-generation iPad versions are also part of the list and will thus be possibly left out of the iPadOS 18.
The revised compatibility is expected to include the following iPad models:
The compatibility list hints about the devices that should support iOS 18 bet signs while the features of the upcoming upgrade are deeply secured. The rumors about iOS 18 being one of the most influential iOS updates in history through the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) can't be denied.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has another idea in mind: he mentions the AI improvements that might be integrated into Siri as well as the other apps that come with the iPhone as they all remain the same. The new product launch follows the trend seen in competitors like Samsung with the Galaxy S series and Google with the recent Pixel flagship devices.
AI can be the reason for developments, including more innovative personal assistants and advanced audio and visual technology.
Also, the news is around the platform switching from SMS to Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging standard. This change will, in turn, make texting better between an Android user and an iOS user as the two will now have friendlier functions like typing dots and a read receipt.
With all the WWDC 2022 rumors floating around in the air, we can only hope that the much-anticipated official announcement of the new iOS 18 will quench the thirst of those eager iPhone enthusiasts.
Keep posted for more to come as we prepare for the anticipated unveiling of iOS 18 in September, where we expect an array of new features and advancements to favor different Apple products.
