Google Search Sees Streamlined UI, Google+ Updated For iOS And Android

Jonathan Charles

Google+ (Google Plus) apps for iOS and Android, along with the Google Search mobile browser experience, are receiving updates. Google is moving its apps aide and creating a simple experience when searching from mobile browsers.

Heading to Google.com will show the changes with tabs of apps moved to a 'drawer,' sliding out from the left-hand side. Services shown in the drawer include a user's Google Plus profile, YouTube, and Google Search. Google Maps is also included, perhaps needed for iOS users not content with Maps for iOS 6. Links to a user's Google Plus profile, a drop-down notification menu, and areas for Google text and image search are available.

Version 3.2 of Google Plus is available now according to Google. Users can now manage Google Plus pages, making comments, and posts. iPhone 5's four-inch display and 16:9 aspect ratio is supported, while Android gets a "Find People" tool alongside a new widget. The iPad app includes a magazine-esque interface, like Google+ for Android tablets; iOS 6 is also supported.

"Today we're rolling out v3.2 of the Google+ app to Android and iOS; both versions include one of our most highly-requested features: support for Google+ pages. This gives page owners the ability to post, comment, and interact with their followers directly from their mobile device," said Google's Lead Product Manager for Google+, Anish Acharya,.

Web site Slashgear reported an issue where users are required to log out and then back into the app after installing the update. It is not clear whether the functionality is intentional.

"One common complaint that seems to be circulating through the early reviews of the apps is the unusual require of forcing a user to log out of their Google+ account and log back in under their Google+ page account in order to operate their page. So far, no official comments have been made on whether this is a temporary solution, or if there are any plans to better integrate pages into the app in the future," stated the site.

Whether the update will bring more users to Google Plus is unknown. Google Plus is available now for free via Google Play and iTunes.
