An iPad Mini is seemingly edging closer and accessory makers are anticipating the smaller tablet's launch. Its launch seems to be edging closer for this month.
AppleInsider reported that analyst Brian White, of Topeka Capital Markets, met with 20 suppliers producing accessories for an iPad Mini and noted that "Some of those already have accessories boxed, labeled and ready for consumers to order."
"One of the vendors White met with had a "pilot" version of the iPad Mini that he was able to use. He said the device felt comfortable in the hand and he was easily able to keep it in his sport coat pocket," revealed the Web site.
The alleged 7.85-inch iPad Mini may aim to be a cheaper iPad offering, maintaining similar performance but with weaker internals. Rumors for the devices have been consistently reported, with release dates speculations from multiple sources.
AppleInsider also reported that retailer Best Buy received boxes with accessories for iPad Minis, and has warned employees to not open boxes which are "standalone displays designed to hold iPad mini accessories." Predicting a device that is yet-to-be-confirmed seems dangerous, but consumers may argue that the produced accessories would imply that the device is in exsistence. Renowned accessory makers like Belkin and Trust are said to be producing cases.
In terms of what an "iPad Mini," or a smaller iPad, will look like is not known for sure. However, rumors and leaks suggest that aside from a 7.85-inch display, a similar aluminum design like current iPads seems to be on the cards. Apple's high resolution Retina display will likely not feature if the aim of a smaller iPad is cost cutting, though a smaller display may produce similar pixels per inch (ppi) to the second generation iPad. Similarly, an A5 chip rather than A5X looks likely. Additionally, the tablet may run on iOS 6, given that Apple likes to have its devices running an integrated platform.
In terms of when the device may release, Media invites to an event on Oct. 10 did not materialize; however, citing trusted sources, AllThingsD reported an Oct. 23 release date was in the pipeline.
