Astro A40: 2013 Edition 'Most Accurate Ever,' Combines MixAmp In Bundle

Astro, makers of the self-titled headsets, announced in a press release its 2013 Astro A40 offering. The company is releasing the devices in a "Pro" bundle.

Along with Astro A40, the popular MixAmp is updated. The headset now features a Quick Disconnect Cabling System, plugging directly into headsets via a 3.5mm headphone jack. Astro claims reliability and durability is improved, making changing cables lengths and updated cables easier.

"Re-tuned drivers and enclosures that make the audiophile-grade headset the most accurate and detailed ASTRO Gaming has ever produced" also feature, the company said in the press release. Also, the headsets reportedly feature "improved low-end response" and less distortion at "peak volume."

Though Astro is keen on highlighting the new features, the edition builds upon previous entries. A removed microphone can be swapped ear to ear, surround sound is Dolby Digital 5.1 or 7.1, speaker tags on the ear cups are customisable and magnetic, while the headset remains multi-platform for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Mac, or mobile devices.

The MixAmp Pro is also new; along with the suffixed name, "new streaming out capability" brings Game Sound and voice chat into livestreams. The device is also smaller than previous iterations, Astro revealed. Users can switch between four preset "Audio Profiles" called Pro, Core, Media, and Sports, which are designed to fit into games or services in the categories. Astrogaming.com will allow users to create Custom Audio Profiles. The TOSlink optical port is also removed in favour of a "more reliable" 3.5mm optical port.

The MixAmp allows users to configure game and voice chat volume spontaneously, brings 5.1 or 7.1 Surround Sound, and multiple MixAmps can be linked together for players in teams, perhaps at competitive gaming events.

The refresh puts the A40 headset and MixAmp Pro in a bundle for $249.99, available now directly from Astro's Web site. Best Buy will stock the headset in the U.S. with demo units. Canada and France will see the bundle in November courtesy EB Games Canada, Best Buy Canada, Fnac, and Micromania.
