Apple released its much-touted iPhone 5 in September this year and recently, Asus unveiled its Padfone 2, a follow-up to its Padfone, which is a smartphone-in-a-tablet hybrid device.
With the competition in the smartphone market intensifying and becoming more fierce day by day, both companies are looking to establish their dominance in the consumer market.
Here's a round-up of the features and specification of the iPhone 5 and Padfone 2. Check out how the two devices measure up against each other.
Processor
The iPhone 5 features a powerful dual-core A6 processor, which is clocked at 1.3GHz. The Padfone 2 has a powerful 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core Krait processor.
Display
The iPhone 5 sports a 4-inch IPS LCD Retina display with 1136 x 640 pixels resolution.
The Padfone 2 has a much bigger 4.7- inch Super IPS+ display with1280 x 720 pixels resolution. However, the iPhone 5 steals the show with its higher 326 ppi density vis-à-vis the Padfone 2's 312 ppi.
Weight, Thickness, and Body
The Padfone 2 measures 5.43 x 2.71 x 0.35 inches, making it taller, wider, and thicker than the iPhone 5 which measures 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches. The Padfone 2 is also heavier than the iPhone 5 and weighs 4.76 ounces vis-à-vis 3.95 ounces
Storage and Memory
Both the devices will be available in 16/32/64 GB internal storage options. However, the Padfone 2 offers double the memory of iPhone 5, 2GB versus 1GB.
Software
The Padfone 2 will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, but will eventually be upgraded to Jelly Bean. The iPhone 5 comes with the latest iOS 6 operating system.
Battery
A 2140mAh battery fuels the Padfone 2 and supports up to 16hours of talk time usage on 3G. The size details of the iPhone 5's battery are not yet known, but the smartphone supports 8 hours of talk time on 3G.
Camera
The Padfone 2 features a massive 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, compared to the iPhone 5's 8-megapixel snapper. Both smartphones sport a the 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera.
Availability
Asus' Padfone 2 is expected to hit the shelves in December and will likely be priced between $620 to $ 750 depending on the model. The unlocked iPhone 5 is priced at $649, $749, and $849 for the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions, respectively.
