Evernote Corp., the maker of the suite of software that offers a comprehensive cloud-based note-taking app for iOS and OS X, confirmed the upcoming launch of Evernote 5 for Mac, which will include over 100 new features.

The announcement from Evernote gives details of the new features along with a video teaser on its official blog. "The new Evernote for Mac is coming soon, but we thought you might like a sneak peek," indicated the official blog.

"Our team of developers and designers have spent the better part of the last year building a completely redesigned Evernote for Mac. We added over a hundred new features and capabilities that make the app better, faster and smarter for our current users, while also making Evernote more accessible to new users," reported the official Evernote blog.

The new Evernote 5 will retain the OS X Mail-esque three-column layout and basic structure as the current version. However, the app will add more color and functionality for the users. The new user interface (UI) will take advantage of cards that will display notes with corresponding images, which is similar to iOS App Store's search executions. Evernote 5 will also include keyboard shortcuts for frequently used features like "Jump to Notebook."

Evernote 5 also brings changes to the left navigation panel. The current collapsible category list has been revamped like OS X, which displays advanced functions like shortcuts, a user's last five notes, and other software features. Users can find the both personal and shared notes in one pane.

Evernote 5 also includes a new feature TypeAhead search, which performs searches across all notes and breaks down results by notebooks, notes, tags, and recent searches. Additionally, the new tool TypeAhead automatically suggests searches to users based on frequently used phrases.

A new feature called Atlas in Evernote 5 allows users to view notes on a map according to where they were written, which is identical to the iOS Photos app, and uses geolocation metadata to present them on "Place Cards" that are ordered by proximity.

The new app has also included a number of keyboard shortcuts for more convenient use. A list of new features can be found on the official Web site.

Evernote 5 may appeal to Mac users and time will tell if many Mac users install the app on their systems.
