The smartphone race is intensifying and judging by the perennial rumors and leaks, 2013 will see the onslaught of the 1080p display devices. Per reports, LG is reportedly testing a mysterious new smartphone "LG-F240K," which will have a 1080p display.
The "LG-F240K" device came up in the GLBenchmark results and if it is anything to go on, then LG could be on track to join the ranks of HTC who recently launched its Droid DNA that boasts of a 1080p display.
Additionally, of late several leaks and rumors have surfaced which suggest that both Samsung and Sony too are working on smartphones that will sport the 1080p display, and the devices are expected to make an appearance in early 2013.
According to the GLBenchmark results, the LG-F240K will have a 1920 x 1080 pixels display resolution. It will pack in a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz with an Adreno 320 GPU. The smartphone will run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. No details of the display's size or the networks have been disclosed. However, given the resolution it is anticipated that the screen size could be around the 5-inch mark.
Interestingly, LG's Optimus G and Nexus 4 which were released in October and November, respectively, sport the same processor.
If the GLBenchmark leak bears fruition, then a 1080p smartphone would be a first for LG. Whether the Korean company can stake its claim in the hotly-contested smartphone market with the launch of the purported LG-F240K and thwart competition from rival devices remains to be seen.
