Google's latest smartphone Nexus 4, which is manufactured by LG, has been creating waves since its launch earlier this month. The Nexus 4's popularity has been unprecedented and with limited availability, consumers will welcome the news that device will soon be offered by UK carrier Three as well.
Per reports, the Nexus 4 will be available on Three from Dec. 13, making it the second carrier in the UK to offer the smartphone.
"The Nexus 4 has a beautiful design and impressive hardware specs so our customers will be able to truly enjoy all the benefits of the mobile internet with this new smartphone," said Sylvia Chind, head of Devices at Three.
Currently, the Nexus 4 is exclusive on carrier O2. Alternately, the unlocked version can be bought from the Google Play Store, depending on stock availability.
Consumers have been finding it difficult to procure the 4.7-inch Nexus 4 from the Play Store, and the smartphone was sold out within an hour of orders opening on Nov. 14 in both the U.S. and the UK. Google later let on that the Nexus 4 was on backorder owing to the high demand, and it could take the company up to three weeks to clear the backlog.
With Three slated to offer the Nexus 4, consumers in the UK would welcome the news. The carrier will be offering the smartphone for £35 (around $56) per month (on contract), with an upfront payment of a £29 (approx. $46) on Three's One Plan. This plan is for 24 months and offers users unlimited data, 2000 any network minutes, 5000 network minutes, and 5000 texts.
Consumers also have the option to go for the PAYG or pay-as-you-go deal, whereby the Nexus 4 will cost them £399.99 (around $634) when bought with a £15 top-up. O2's pre-paid plan for the Nexus costs the same as Three's.
With the unlocked version of the Nexus 4 costing $299 and $349 for the 8GB and 16GB versions, respectively, the pre-paid offering from Three is a little steep. It remains to be seen if consumers will opt for the Nexus 4 from Three despite the higher pricing.
