China-based ZTE Corporation (ZTE) has yet another first to its credit. Earlier this year its N880E smartphone became the first device from ZTE to run on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform, and now the company has announced that the same handset has received the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean software update.
ZTE made the announcement on Friday, Nov. 23, making it the first Chinese company to have an Android-powered smartphone with the latest version of the OS.
"This announcement highlights ZTE's long standing strategic relationship with Google and ZTE's determination to provide consumers with cutting-edge technology and the best Smartphone experience," said He Shiyou, ZTE EVP and Head of the Terminal Division.
The mid-range N880E is available only in China and is a part of ZTE's Blade line-up of smartphones. The mid-range device has sold more than one million units since its May release. The N880E features a 4-inch WVGA display (800 x 480 pixels resolution), a 1GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM7627A processor, 4GB of on-board storage with the option to expand the memory via the microSD card, and 512MB of RAM. A 1650mAh battery fuels the smartphonem which also sports a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera.
"ZTE will introduce more models on Android 4.2 in the future, and will continue to make improvements to equipment performance and stability, ensuring that our handsets meet with the high expectations of today's consumers," said Shiyou.
Google launched Android 4.2 on Oct. 29 and it made an appearance this month on its Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 devices.With the ZTE N880E getting the Android 4.2 software update, the users of the device will benefit from new features like Photo Sphere, Google Now, and more.
