We are just weeks away from RIM's unveiling of its new BlackBerry 10 (BB10) operating system and new devices that run on the platform. Come Jan. 30, the Canadian smartphone company will take the wraps off its much-awaited BB10 devices, but it seems we may have a release date for RIM's first BB10 device at hand, courtesy a leak.
A new leaked image of an internal document from Best Buy Canada has popped up online and shows carrier Bell's internal inventory system. The image, courtesy BGR reveals that a post-paid handset from Bell could release as early as Feb. 28.
"According to an image provided to BGR and other publications allegedly showing Best Buy Canada's (BBY) internal inventory system, the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone could launch in Canada on February 28th," BGR said.
The leaked image also points to a $799.99 promo price for the BB10 handset, but does not let on which smartphone it is. However, a strong possibility exists that the device in question could be the much-touted BlackBerry Z10 smartphone, slated to be RIM's flagship for 2013.
Even though the leaked image details carrier Bell's offering, it is likely that the first BB10 handset would launch on other carriers simultaneously, provided that the document is authentic of course.
BGR contacted RIM for clarification and the company declined to comment on the speculations.
"We understand that there is a lot of excitement for BlackBerry 10," said a RIM spokesman to BGR in an e-mail. "We will launch the platform on January 30th and until then we won't comment on speculation."
RIM's press event is scheduled for Jan. 30, where the Canadian company will debut its BB10 devices. We will just have to wait and watch if the Feb. 28 release has any grain of truth in it and bears fruition.
