Nokia launched its Windows Phone 8 (WP8) smartphones the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 in November last year. They turned out to be among the most popular and best known WP8 smartphones available today. However, the Finnish smartphone maker isn't resting on its laurels - to increase the popularity of its WP8 smartphones further, Nokia has launched a TV advert which says to users "it's time to switch".
Nokia's global marketing and promotion strategy for its Lumia series of smartphones seems to be with the help of video commercials.
Nokia's recent Chinese advert touted the features of the Lumia 920, and a previous advert took a dig at the staid black and white colors of the iPhone 5.
The latest commercial from Nokia begins with the statement "around the world millions of people are switching to Nokia." The advert goes on to show some of the features of the Lumia devices including the camera, wireless charging, and Nokia City Lens. The 30-second ad shows happy owners using their Lumia devices and finally concludes with the "it's time to switch" message.
The style of the Nokia TV commercial is very similar to Microsoft's WP8 advert showing off an array of WP8-powered smartphones, and it is possible that Nokia and Microsoft have been working closely towards the developments of the video commercials.
The Lumia 920 boasts top-end hardware specifications and features needed to compete with any other top-end smartphone available today. Lumia 920 and the Lumia 820 may attract smartphone users looking to experience a new operating system apart from iOS and Android. However, the presence of a new operating system, WP8, may also make many users skeptical and deter them from switching.
The Lumia smartphone series may take time to pick up pace in the smartphone industry. As and when more users get used to WP8, the popularity of the Lumia smartphones would consequently increase. Additionally, if Nokia shows off the features of Lumia smartphones with more video commercials many customers may get diverted to the company's latest offering.
Time will tell how many users think "it's time to switch" to Nokia's Lumia smartphones. Check out the advert below.
