The success of Samsung Galaxy S3 in 2012 has made the next-generation Galaxy S4 one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2013. The rumor mill has been churning out leaks and speculations by the dozen for some months now, and the latest rumors indicate that the Galaxy S4, codenamed 'Altius' will start shipping from April 15 this year.
Samsung Mobile's JK Shin had confirmed that the Galaxy S4 smartphone would not be shown off at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 in February. However, reports indicate that Samsung has planned its Unpacked event on March 22 where it will showcase the Galaxy S4, a.k.a 'Altius'.
SamMobile seems to have received more information on the Galaxy S4 and the SamMobile report says, "We are able to confirm more details about Samsung's next flagship device!"
Per SamMobile, Samsung's next flaghsip device built under the codename "Project J" has now been changed to codename "Altius(J)". The report indicates that the Samsung Altius (Galaxy S4) will be offered in two colours black and white, which will start shipping from week 16 i.e. April 15. If the March 22 Samsung Unpacked event goes ahead as rumored, then April 15 shipping date seems very realistic.
The report also claims that the rumor about the Galaxy S4 having wireless charging is real. Samsung will sell a separate dock and a back cover with wireless charging capabilities for the Galaxy S4. The wireless charging kit will ship a couple of weeks after the Galaxy S4 starts shipping. The report confirms that that the Galaxy S4 will have a 2600 mAh battery (Galaxy S3 runss on 2100 mAh battery).
The Galaxy S4 is speculated to sport a 4.99-inch Full HD AMOLED flexible display. It will likely feature an 8-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, and the S Pen stylus.
The year 2012 has witnessed one of the best smartphones ever made by Samsung. It will be interesting to see if Samsung is able to keep up with high customer expectations and pass the market litmus test with its Galaxy S4
