Nokia has had a busy 2012 with the launch of its latest Windows Phone 8 (WP8) smartphones Lumia 920 and Lumia 820. It seems that the Finnish company has more plans for 2013 as rumors indicate that Nokia will launch a whopping 41-megapixel WP8-powered smartphone, codenamed EOS, in this year.
It will not be the first time that Nokia has unveiled a smarpthone with 41-megapixel sensors, though. The Nokia 808 PureView, launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 was the company's first smartphone that boasted of 41-megapixel camera. However,, it was powered by Symbian OS. The EOS will run on WP8.
"The upgraded sensor for Windows Phone means the EOS will be ranged as a high-end Lumia in the company's range of devices for 2013," reported The Verge.
Furthermore, The Verge also reported that the EOS will have an aluminum body with square edges and not a polycarbonate one as what is found in the current Lumia Windows handsets. The reports also indicate that U.S. carrier AT&T will carry the EOS.
Previous rumors indicate that a refreshed Lumia 920, codenamed Catwalk, with aluminum body may be in the pipeline for Nokia. So is it possible that the Catwalk and EOS are the same device?
It seems that Nokia is capitalizing on its PureView camera as the current Lumia 920 also touts a 8.7-megapixel PureView snapper. If rumors are to be believed, then EOS will be the first Windows Phone from Nokia that comes with the company's genuine PureView camera.
Nokia 808 PureView did not make a big impression in the smartphone industry. So we won't be surprised if Nokia is hoping that the EOS will catch the eyes of the consumers and tech gurus alike.
