As the first quarter starts going into its second half, rumors about the upcoming smartphones start getting momentum.
Recent among all is related to Apple's upcoming iPhone.
According to a recent report of Apple Insider, Apple's new iPhone dubbed iPhone 6 will sport a 4.8-inch screen. However, the good news of iPhone 6 being larger has to be taken with a bad one.
According to Jeffries analyst Peter Misek, the phone will not be coming until June 2014 because of some manufacturing issues. He said Apple wanted to prevent the fall of its market shares by releasing the bigger iPhone in the month of October this year, but will not be able to because its display manufacturers are facing difficulties in shifting from 4-inch display (of iPhone 5) to 4.8-inch ones.
"We believe a summer CY14 launch was originally planned, but Apple tried to accelerate it to stem its market share losses. The earliest Apple could have launched a 4.8" phone would have been this fall (with a target of Oct); however, our checks indicate that Apple's suppliers are running into difficulties trying to scale the screen size from 4" to 4.8"," Apple Insider quoted Misek as saying.
The analyst with Jeffries also predicted that Apple will be shifting from its A-series processors to a quad-core processor for the iPhone 6.
Apple will shift its chip making process from 32 nanometer to 20 nanometer process in order to add about four to eight cores.
"While TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is targeting a 2014 ramp in its 20nm production we think that issues like double patterning could make it a more complicated transition than the 28nm ramp, which had its own substantial ramp and yield issues," Misek added.
Misek, however, discloses that though iPhone 6 is not going to come this year, Apple fans will still have their share of fun as the Cupertino-based company will release two new iPhones this year.
Apple is expected to come up with a budget iPhone and iPhone 5S this year.
