Apple, which has been battling with a series of issues related to its mobile operating system iOS, is reportedly all set for releasing the latest update of iOS. The reportedly upcoming update iOS 6.1.2 is expected to fix the passcode bug, Exchange Server and battery drain issues in iPhones, iPad and iPods.
According to a German Web site, ifun, the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to roll out the update as soon as Feb. 20. The reliability of the information can be questioned, but we should keep a fact in mind that ifun had predicted the release of iOS 6.1.1 exactly eight hours before its release. This time too, ifun is quoting the same sources who predicated iOS 6.1.1's release.
Users of iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad (third and fourth generation), iPad mini, iPad 2 and iPod touch (fourth and fifth generation) have been facing different kinds of problems since the release of iOS 6. However, the problems for iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPod touch users swelled when they started experiencing sudden battery drain, 3G connectivity problems, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth related issues when they updated their devices to iOS 6.1.
The problem for iPhone 4S swell to an extent where major services providers like Vodafone UK and 3 Austria issued advisories to their customers against the iOS 6.1 update.
Apple kept avoiding all these issues until the carriers' move, however sensing the situation it released iOS 6.1.1 for only iPhone 4S devices to fix the 3G and battery drain issues.
But, a bigger devil was waiting for the Cupertino-based company all this while. As Apple developers heaved a sigh of relief by somehow fixing iPhone 4S owners' problem, a major problem hit them real hard. This time the issue was security related as a bug was allowing people to bypass the passcode screen and letting them enter iPhones.
Apple did not waste much time and promised an update for the fix. "Apple takes user security very seriously," Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller told AllThingsD. "We are aware of this issue, and will deliver a fix in a future software update," he added.
Though this is second update to iOS 6.1, but nothing major should be expected from this update as this update is mostly focused on fixing bugs related to Microsoft Exchange Server and the passcode.
Apple is known for doing a thorough testing of any of its OS as it releases many beta versions to its registered developers before releasing it for public. However, this time it is going to release the updating without releasing even one beta version.
However, users of Apple devices running on iOS 6.1 will always hope that the latest update fixes most of their issues if not all.
