When Mozilla is making headlines for its new mobile operating system and shaking hands with world's some of the best mobile makers for the release of the OS, world's largest smartphone maker has kept itself away from it.
While Sony, LG, Huawei, and ZTE are going to launch devices running on Firefox OS, Samsung has no plans like that.
According to a CNET report, Samsung will not take Firefox OS for any of its future devices and will stick to Android and Tizen, for now.
The report quoted a "high-level Samsung executive" at the ongoing Mobile World Congress.
With the arrival of Firefox OS, the mobile world sees the arrival of fourth open source mobile operating system. The first open source mobile OS, Android has been ruling the market for quite some time and giving tough competition to giants like Apple.
The two other open source mobile platforms are Ubuntu OS and Tizen.
Samsung is expected to come out with a smartphone running on Tizen in late third quarter this year.
For Samsung, it (Tizen) offers a way to diversify its smartphone lineup, allowing it to maintain its multi-OS strategy. Alongside Android, Samsung is also a key partner to Microsoft with Windows Phone 8. But Samsung doesn't share the same interest in Mozilla's Firefox OS, CNET quoted a high-level Samsung executive as saying.
Firefox OS, as it looks like, is going to give an amazing choice of apps, games, and multimedia features to its users. The browsing will be much easier with Firefox OS as it is "Built entirely using HTML5 and other open Web standards, Firefox OS is free from the rules and restrictions of existing proprietary platforms."
"Firefox OS will break down the walls between apps and the Web because Firefox OS apps are built using Web technologies, like HTML5," Jay Sullivan, Mozilla senior vice-president of products said.
"We expect to see lots of amazing apps people love built for Firefox OS because more developers are already creating for the Web than for any other platform," he added.
