Microsoft Office 365 is slated for a quarterly updating, according to president of Microsoft's Office division, Kurt Delbene. The quarterly updating should make subscribing to Office more attractive to those who are on the fence about paying a subscription fee to use Microsoft's Office tools.
Kurt Delbene stated that Microsoft possesses the mechanism to update Office on a quarterly basis; it only needs to be put into motion. He went on to add that updates would get into a routine of a "major-minor cadence," which means some updates will address minor features, while others would be more aggressive.
Consumers could find this move pleasing, as the majority requires quick and regular updates to products. Product customers are always restless to try new things; by updating Office 365 regularly Microsoft could potentially keep consumers interested and coming back for another subscription month after month.
For those who are unaware, Microsoft Office 365 comes packed with all the Office tools users have come to rely on over the years. A subscription also includes 20GB of SkyDrive, and this will be added to whatever other subscription plan you have with SkyDrive. Furthermore, if you were grandfathered into SkyDrive back in 2012, this 20GB will be added to your free 25GB of free storage, making it 45GB in total.
Not many are pleased with Microsoft adding a subscription model to Office; however, we think it's a good idea. Not everyone is able to afford the full price for owning the full suite, but a lot of people can afford $7.99 per month.
