The HTC One X smartphone recently received it update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will get version 4.2.2 as well as Sense 5 this summer.
HTC may have a new flagship device to boast, but it seems the smartphone manufacturer did not forget about its older devices. As it turns out, the HTC One X will get an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 5 in June or July.
In the past, HTC seemed to quickly forget about once flagship smartphones. The HTC Desire, for instance, seems forgotten on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. HTC One X owners, however, are apparently in luck.
According to HTC tipster @LlabTooFeR, who proved quite reliable in the past, the handset will receive the Android 4.2.2 update, along with the Sense 5 overlay, in the coming months, as soon as June or July. HTC did promise to make the Sense 5 features available on other hardware, and the next Jelly Bean update will add many of those features to smartphones provided they are not hardware specific for the HTC One.
While @LlabTooFeR proved a reliable source in the past, HTC itself did not confirm any details about the timeframe of the update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The tipster previously cast some doubt on the HTC One X's update to Sense 5, but his most recent leak suggests users should expect the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update and the Sense 5 at or around the same time. The Tegra 3-powered international version of the HTC One X is also known as the HTC Endeavor_U.
The tipster gives an earlier timeframe for the update than expected, but if it proves to be true HTC One X owners are in for a neat surprise. Sure, Google may introduce the next version of Android, presumably called Key Lime Pie, by then, so the HTC One X will not have the absolute latest Android software on board, but it's a great improvement nonetheless.
Many HTC One X owners are eagerly waiting to get a taste of the latest Jelly Bean software, and the sooner, the better. Cynics, meanwhile, wonder whether the June or July timeframe is for this year or the next one.
