The Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone is one of the devices that were rooted before its actual release, and now there is more good news for those who believe in rooting their devices to get the most out of them.
The T-Mobile model and the Canadian version of the Galaxy S4 devices have the CyanogenMod 10.1, but the build is in nightly mode and will take more time to get ready for the perfect release.
Initially, with the announcement of the Galaxy S4, rooting experts were skeptical about the future of the CyanogenMod custom ROM on the new device. Rooting fans were more disappointed when they heard about the locked bootloader.
Confirming this, Steve Kondik, the man behind the CyanogenMod project, said, "Yep, it's confirmed. The AT&T S4 authenticates the recovery and boot images before executing them."
"I would not recommend buying this device on AT&T if you want to run CyanogenMod or another custom ROM, or if you are a developer and need to work with or debug the lower layers," he added.
When Kondik started with the T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S4, he looked little disappointed, as he found the CM not supporting the Galaxy S4 device. "Definitely not supporting the S4," he posted on his Google+ page.
However, it didn't take much time for him to come up with the cracker and within three days he announced the availability of the CyanogenMod 10.1 for Samsung Galaxy S4.
"I just finished the initial bringup of the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919). We'll port to other variants when we get the devices (including the I9505). The first nightlies will go off tonight. There are a few rough edges still, but will be ironed out in short order and you should be able to use it as your daily driver without serious issues. The touchscreen on this device should support Android's hover events. I'm looking forward to see what the community can come up with using this new feature!" he posted.
The CM 10.1 is now available for the Canadian version of the Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M and it is expected to bring support to the international version GT-I9505 soon.
