Remember that YouTube application Microsoft came up with not too long ago? Well, as it stands, Google wants the app taken down from the Windows Phone Store because it breaks certain violations, ones that allows YouTube to survive.
According to Google and The Verge, the Microsoft-developed YouTube application does not show advertisements, which is the main money maker for the platform. Furthermore, Google is complaining that the app allows its users to download video, something Google classifies as illegal activity. Strangely, several YouTube apps in the Windows Phone Store allows for the download of videos, so why hasn't Google take action against those developers.
Still, you can't blame Google for what it has done, for advertisement is an important source of revenue for the company and its YouTube partners. If Microsoft is indeed making revenue gain a problem, then the app should be taken down until the problem is rectified. Google has given Microsoft up until May 22 to remove the application or face the consequences, so Windows Phone 8 users should expect to return to using the old apps until Microsoft take action with this particular problem.
What's new in Microsoft's YouTube App?
-Pin videos, playlists, channels, and even search queries to Start as Live Tiles for fast access. The tile flips to show either the latest video from your subscriptions or the most popular one.
-A new and innovative playlist design gives you easy access to videos using a touch-friendly filmstrip.
-Just want to listen to a video? It now plays in the background even when the screen is locked.
-You can share videos to popular social networks, and via email and text.
-Let your kids watch safe videos in Kid's Corner and keep their own profiles
-Manage your YouTube profile with your unique My YouTube page
We took the app for a spin, and after a few minutes watching the third Man of Steel trailer, we can officially say this is no doubt the best YouTube app available for Windows Phone 8 and we'll be sad to see Microsoft take it down.
