Google is trying to give the Android users Nexus experience on every device; and as the first step towards that goal, Google has released the Google Keyboard for all the Android devices.
The Google Keyboard is a keyboard app that brings the stock Android keyboard to any Android smartphone or tablet. The new keyboard will give Android users Nexus-like typing experience.
The release of the Google Keyboard is going to make typing very easy and effortless with its gesture-typing feature that enables the users to glide their fingers over the keys while typing words.
"Google Keyboard has Gesture Typing (which lets you glide through letters to form a word, just lift your finger to enter a space), automatic error correction, and word predictions. You can also tap the microphone to compose messages with Voice Typing when you're on-the-go. Together with dictionaries for 26 languages (plus keyboard layouts for a dozen more), it provides a fast, accurate, and reliable typing experience," Google said in a release note on Android's Google+ page.
The Google Keyboard can be downloaded and installed on any Android device running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or an upgraded Android version. Moreover, the app is free to download and its size is only 15 MB.
With the launch of the Google Keyboard, Google is trying to disintegrate Android components and offering their upgrades separately so it doesn't have to depend much on the OEMs such as Samsung, LG and others while bringing out upgraded versions of Android operating system.
Google has already released the gesture-typing feature with the launch of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but the devices running below Android 4.2 were still depending on third-party apps like Swype and SwiftKey which charge a dollar or two for downloading them.
Users who have already installed this new keyboard application, seem to be quite delighted with the smooth performance of the app and buttery typing experience.
Many of the users have given the application a rating between 4 and 5 on the app page of the Google Keyboard.
Over 2,500 people have already downloaded the application and the average rating has come to 4.7 (with 5 being the highest) so far.
"This is such a great keyboard, I'd have to say it's the best one on Google Play and I'm happy they released it to all Android phones, I still use this as my main keyboard on my Nexus 7 as well. Keep up the good work Google," a user commented on the application's page.
