The Samsung Galaxy S3 is headed to Boost Mobile in an LTE flavor, launching on June 14 with a $399 price tag, contract-free.
The new flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 may be right now more popular than the Galaxy S3, but the previous-generation smartphone still has plenty to offer and continues to enjoy great popularity. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a neat, powerful smartphone despite its age and is a great option for those who felt the new generation is not worth the upgrade.
Recently T-Mobile started selling the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE version, and now Boost Mobile has announced it will start selling the LTE flavor of the smartphone as well. The Galaxy S3 on Boost Mobile will have access to 4G LTE through Sprint's growing LTE network.
There's a big difference between T-Mobile's and Boost Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE offerings - while T-Mobile offers the LTE version of the Galaxy S3 for a whopping $550 ($70 upfront, plus 24 subsequent monthly payments of $20, totaling $550), Boost Mobile will sell it for $399 off-contract. A $550 price tag is arguably steep for an older handset, especially when current flagships sell for just a bit more, but $399.99 is fairly decent price for a no-contract smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE on Boost Mobile will cost $399.99 up-front, without the hassle and limitations of a contract. The smartphone will get LTE coverage in the 88 markets where Sprint has LTE, while the rest will be stuck with EvDo 3G.
"Samsung Galaxy S III is an award-winning device that customers can now combine with an award-winning no-contract carrier," touts Boost Mobile vice president Andre Smith, according to the press release. "Combined with Boost Mobile's shrinking payments, where customers save the longer they stay, and the super-fast 4G LTE network from Sprint, Galaxy S III combines sharing, simplicity and power together in a way never before seen by no-contract customers."
As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy S3 sports a generous 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, NFC and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, among other features. The Galaxy S3 dominated the Android smartphone market in 2012 and continues to have a strong presence even today.
Samsung Galaxy S3 users on Boost Mobile will also be able to get on the $55 Android Monthly Unlimited plan, which also comes with the Shrinking Payments feature. For each six payments made on time, the monthly bill shrinks by $5 to a minimum of $40.
All in all, the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE on Boost Mobile sounds like a pretty good deal, but make sure to check LTE coverage before making the purchase. Otherwise, you'll be stuck with a 4G LTE phone running on 3G.
