Earlier this week, AT&T teaseda video, showing 'something' that goes underwater and takes pictures and video, and many were anticipating that the carrier is going to bring Sony's Xperia Z smartphone to its shelves. However, AT&T has got something exclusive for its customers as it announced the availability of Samsung's latest release, the Galaxy S4 Active.
AT&T is the first U.S. carrier to carry the rugged version of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone. The device will be sold for $199.99 with a new two-year contract. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S4 Active started today. The device is going to be launched on June 21 and if you are interested in this water- and dust-proof smartphone, then you better pre-order it.
The Galaxy S4 Active is going to be exclusive on AT&T network while other carriers remain busy focusing on other variants of the Galaxy S4.
"Continuing AT&T's legacy as the first carrier to launch the Samsung Galaxy series, we're excited to offer the next evolution of the popular Galaxy S 4. The Galaxy S 4 Active is a high-performance smartphone with a stylish, protective design to keep up with the demands of everyday life. It's truly summer-proof," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president - Devices and Developer Services, AT&T.
"With its quad-core processor and access to the nation's largest 4G network and fastest 4G LTE network you can stay connected nearly anywhere life takes you."
The Galaxy S4 Active comes with IP67 rating that makes this rugged smartphone dust- and water-proof. The device can stay three feet under water for 30 minutes without experiencing any damage to its hardware.
The smartphone sports a 5 inch TFT LCD 1080 pixel display with a pixel density of 443 pixels per inch. It is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.9 GHz and supported by a hefty 2 GB of RAM.
As the Galaxy S4 Active is a water-proof smartphone, it comes with a good number of shooting modes including Aqua Mode. The Aqua Mode allows users to take underwater pictures and videos.
