The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, the rugged version of the company's new flagship smartphone, is now up for pre-order in the U.S. at AT&T.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 enjoyed immense success and saw whopping sales in record time, so the South Korean tech giant decided to bank on all the hype and launch another version of the handset, this time bringing more ruggedness and durability to the plate.

AT&T is the first U.S. carrier to offer the new Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and come June 21, interested buyers can pick up the smartphone from any AT&T store or online for just $199.99 on the standard two-year contract. Starting Friday, June 14, the Samsung Galaxy Active is available for pre-order from AT&T. The smartphone will be available in two color options: Urban Gray and Dive Blue.

"Continuing AT&T's legacy as the first carrier to launch the Samsung Galaxy series, we're excited to offer the next evolution of the popular Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S4 Active is a high-performance smartphone with a stylish, protective design to keep up with the demands of everyday life. It's truly summer-proof," Jeff Bradley, AT&T's senior vice president of Devices and Developer Services, boasts in the press release. "With its quad-core processor and access to the nation's largest 4G LTE network you can stay connected nearly anywhere life takes you."

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is waterproof and dustproof, promising extra durability to withstand a day at the beach or a hike up the mountain. Aside from its more rugged capabilities, the Active version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 sports no major changes compared to the original version.

The Galaxy S4 Active is identical to its regular counterpart in terms of specs, except for the rear camera. While the original Samsung Galaxy S4 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera, the Galaxy S4 Active has an 8-megapixel shooter. The rugged version of the smartphone is also a bit taller, wider and thicker.

In other words, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active aims to leave little reasons not to buy it. While some may be concerned about investing in a high-end smartphone that is too fragile, this handset should ease some of those concerns. Check out this video to see the smartphone in action.
