Owners of the Sony Xperia S or Xperia SL are in for some good news, as a new firmware update is reportedly on the way.
The update, however, does not bring the handsets to the newer Android 4.2. It's still Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, but it does bring some neat fixes.
According to a leaked screenshot from Chinese site GFan, the firmware update has the build number 6.2.B.1.96. Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean started rolling out to the Xperia S and Xperia SL at the end of May in various regions, but many users said they were experiencing some issues with their devices after the update.
Sony has yet to release an official changelog for the new firmware update for the Xperia S and Xperia SL and it remains unclear at this point exactly when this update will arrive. The new firmware is, however, expected to start rolling out by the end of this month, which means the wait is almost over.
Despite the lack of official details regarding the changes this update will bring, the new build is believed to have fixed the 1080p recording issue and the bug affecting the volume up. Other fixes are expected as well, and users will also be able to long-press the home button on their devices to access Google Now. The update should also bring various performance and stability enhancements.
It is not certain for now whether the new firmware update will fix all of the issues Xperia S and SL owners have been experiencing post the update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Sony made no announcement so far and there is no timeframe for the update rollout.
Based on this leaked screenshot, however, it looks like the update is already being tested, which means that it shouldn't be too long until it reaches the Sony Xperia S and Xperia SL.
There's no word on when or if the two handsets will get a bump to the newer Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, so this firmware update will have to do for now. Let us know if you've experienced any issues with your Xperia S or SL since upgrading to Jelly Bean and whether the new firmware build fixed those problems.
