Moto X hits Verizon Wireless on Aug. 29, sporting $199.99 price tag on-contract

Verizon Wireless has confirmed that it will start offering the new Motorola flagship, the Moto X, on Aug. 29 for $199.99 on a two-year contract.

While Verizon took a whopping five months until finally offering the HTC One flagship to its customers, it seems that the carrier is now more prompt with the much-hyped Moto X.

Motorola's new flagship smartphone was rumored to launch on all four major carriers on Aug. 23, but only AT&T started offering the handset on that date. Speculations then arose that Verizon would begin selling the Moto X on Aug. 29 and the carrier has now confirmed it via a post on Twitter.

The Moto X has been one of the most anticipated smartphones of this year not only because it is the first Motorola handset to come out since Google acquired the company, but also because it offers unprecedented customization options. Motorola touted that it will allow users to design their own Moto X to suit their personal tastes and preferences.

The Moto Maker customization tool for designing the Moto X, however, is not available just yet and will reportedly be exclusive to AT&T at least for a few months. Rumor has it that other carriers may gain access to the customization tool from November onwards, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Verizon announced that it will start offering the Moto X on Aug. 29 for $199.99 on a  two-year contract, but made no mention yet of the customization features. Given the great interest that Moto Maker has stirred, Verizon would've surely bragged about it if it were offering the customization features. This means that the carrier will likely offer just the white and black color options of the handset, as seen in the image accompanying the tweet. It remains uncertain when or if Verizon will start offering the handset with customizations at a later date.

Customers who prefer to get the handset from a Verizon store will have to wait a bit longer, as the Moto X will not be immediately available in stores. For now, interested buyers who want to get the smartphone as soon as possible will have to place an order online. The Moto X is expected to hit store shelves sometime in the coming weeks, with no exact date available.
