The ASUS PadFone Infinity has popped up in some benchmark results indicating that it may come in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800-powered model.
ASUS first announced its PadFone Infinity device back in early 2013 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), but hasn't said much since then. Just as expected, this device will come out as an upgraded version of the company's PadFone 2.
The handset is yet to make its official debut in the U.S., but recently reported benchmarks of an unreleased ASUS PadFone Infinity A86 suggest that there's a chance the company may launch a version of the device with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800.
"It is believed that the company has delayed PadFone Infinity U.S. release to launch the Snapdragon 800 version instead," reports Ubergizmo. "Today, the new PadFone Infinity has been pictured, it looks identical to the current one, except that it comes in white as well."
The image Ubergizmo refers to was leaked by ePrice. If this report proves to be accurate, it would indeed make sense for the company to delay the U.S. launch of the PadFone Infinity so it could pack a better processor. The U.S. smartphone market is incredibly competitive and packed with high-end devices going head to head, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor has become one of the must-haves of today.
ASUS has build a strong name for itself in the PC and tablet markets, but it still has a long way to go to leave a significant print on the smartphone market. Heavyweights such as Apple, Samsung, HTC and the likes are dominating the arena with their high-end offerings, leaving other manufacturers playing catch-up and struggling for relevance.
The ASUS PadFone Infinity A86, as Ubergizmo further points out, seems to be compatible with the current PadFone Infinity's base. Some rumors have also suggested that the device might come with a micro SD expansion slot for additional memory, but this remains unconfirmed for now.
ASUS has yet to announce when it will make the PadFone Infinity available in the U.S., but the company is expected to reveal more details in a few days at the IFA 2013 trade show in Berlin, which kicks off in early September.
