The Moto X might become even more exciting this winter, as it will reportedly drop its price tag to $100 on-contract by Christmas.
Motorola's latest flagship smartphone, the Moto X, has been one of the most anticipated handsets of this year. The device is the first smartphone to launch since Google acquired Motorola and it sports unprecedented customization options, allowing users to design their own Moto X through a customization tool called Moto Maker.
The Moto X does not sport very high-end specs, but those advanced customization features have surrounded the smartphone in a lot of hype and created great demand. The smartphone is barely out and it's already one of the most talked-about devices of this year.
Potential smartphone buyers yearning for the new Moto X may be in for some good news, as it now seems that the device may drop to just $100 on a two-year contract this winter. The news comes from famous and reliable tipster @evleaks.
The Moto X is currently available with a $199.99 price tag on a two-year contract on AT&T and Verizon. According to a new tweet from @evleaks, however, the smartphone will reportedly drop to $100 on contract, while the wooden back options would cost $50. The wooden back options have stirred lots of interest since Motorola announced its new flagship, as they offer a more natural, elegant look.
While the smartphone has made its way only to AT&T and Verizon so far, all U.S. carriers are expected to start offering the Moto X soon. Global fans of the smartphone, however, are not invited to this party just yet. In a recent interview with The Verge, Motorola said it currently has no plans for launching the Moto X in Europe.
News that Motorola will drop the price tag of the Moto X to $100 just months after launching the handset may seem odd to some. On the other hand, many felt like the device was slightly overpriced to begin with. The customization options are great and the smartphone does sport some exciting features and functionality, but other handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the HTC One boast far higher-end specs for the same $199.99 price tag on contract.
Consequently, many consumers feel it is too much to pay $199.99 for a Moto X on contract when they could just get the Galaxy S4 or the HTC One for the same amount. A $100 price tag on contract, however, would change things completely and would most likely tempt numerous smartphone shoppers to try out the new Moto X.
