Acer has announced its brand new Liquid S2, a 6-inch Full HD handset the company touts as its 'first 4K recording smartphone.'
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is also rumored to boast 4K video recording capabilities, but Acer has now officially become the first company to announce an Android smartphone with such features, beating Samsung to the punch.
Samsung also chose to stay mum before unveiling the Galaxy Note 3 on Sept. 4 at its Unpacked event in Berlin, while Acer went ahead and made its IFA 2013 announcements already for a number of Android products, including the new Acer Liquid S2.
Besides impressive 4K video recording, the Liquid S2 will also boast a 6-inch Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 368 pixels per inch (ppi), topped with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The handset will pack a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz under the hood, along with 2GB of RAM to keep things running smoothly.
Other specs of the Acer Liquid S2 include 16GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera with f2.2, 28mm lens, 4K Ultra HD video recording and BSI sensors, 27MP full panorama photo, LED ring flash, "fast full HD," "4 X slow motion," and other camera features such as Smart Best Shot, Quick First Shot, Tag Widget, Favorite Mode, Exposure Control, Freehand Capture and Live Screen. A 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, meanwhile, will sport f2.2, 24mm lens, BSI sensor, 1080p video recording and 88-degree wide viewing angle.
The Acer Liquid S2 will also include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n with Mobile Hotspot support, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS. A 3,300 mAh non-removable battery will power the handset and stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus sound will offer a quality audio experience.
"Following the recent successful launch of the Liquid E, Z and S series, Acer is now ushering in a different world of clarity with four times the resolution of full HD. This technology has been featured in some cameras already, but it's a completely new experience with smartphones running on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz processor capable of recording in 4K," boasts Acer in the press release, as published by Engadget.
"The real beauty of the smartphone is its iconic soft round curves and red elements for the receiver mesh and metallic ring highlighting the four LED ring flash for low light and macro capturing. The curved glass surface keeps a soft touch and 'edgeless' feeling around the rim."
The Acer Liquid S2 will become available at the end of next month, but the company offers no exact launch dates or pricing details in the press release. Acer will likely reveal more soon enough, so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
