The new iPhone 5C went up for pre-order in 10 countries on Sept. 13 and so far overwhelming demand doesn't seem to have affected launch day delivery promises.
With roughly 7 hours since the smartphone became available for pre-order, most configurations of the new, lower-cost iPhone 5C seem to remain set for launch day delivery, both on the Apple Online Store and through carriers.
Devices that are in amazingly high demand sometimes tend to see overwhelming pre-order numbers, which in turn affects planned delivery dates. So far, this doesn't seem to be the case with the iPhone 5C, which is slated for a Sept. 20 launch. The smartphone will see delays only in a few cases.
Apple's website, for instance, shows that the iPhone 5C has slipped to 1-2 weeks delivery for pre-order customers in Hong Kong. The Sept. 20 delivery date remains in place for the U.S., Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Singapore and the UK, except for some outlying areas in some of these countries.
In terms of mobile carriers, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile still have the iPhone 5C available for pre-order in all its storage configurations, while Sprint seems to have some trouble keeping up with demand.
The 32GB model of the iPhone 5C in yellow seems to be in the shortest supply and Sprint mentions that it may not be able to make all deliveries on Sept. 20.
"We'll do our best to get it to you by 9/20; but because of high demand, some phones will ship in up to 2 weeks," notes the carrier. "iPhone 5c yellow 32GB will ship in up to 3 weeks. A tracking number will be sent when your phone ships."
The colorful iPhone 5C 16GB is available on most carriers for $99 with a standard two-year agreement, while the 32GB model goes up to $199, also on a two-year contract.
Interested buyers who would like to purchase the smartphone without having to commit to a lengthy agreement with a carrier can have the unlocked GSM version of the 16GB iPhone 5C for $549 and the 32GB model for $649.
The iPhone 5C will become available next Friday, Sept. 10, along with the iPhone 5S. The higher-end iPhone 5S will launch as Apple's latest flagship smartphone, but is not available for pre-order.
