Nokia is reportedly gearing up to launch its first-ever tablet codenamed Sirius and more details about the slate have now emerged.
Rumors have been making rounds for a good while, suggesting that Nokia will soon make its debut on the competitive tablet market, and increasingly more evidence seems to pile up supporting the claim.
The upcoming Nokia Sirius tablet is expected to sport a 10.1-inch display and run Microsoft's latest Windows 8 software.
The much-rumored Nokia tablet will also reportedly pack a quad-core Qualcomm 8974 processor paired with 2GB of RAM, as well as a Full HD 1080p display. The purported slate has now leaked in an intriguing image and with more information regarding its specs.
According to a recent report from WinSuperSite, the 4G-enabled Nokia Sirius tablet will measure 0.35 inches in thickness and weigh 1.3 pounds. Moreover, the slate would also rock a high-end 6.7-megapixel camera. The publication further speculates that the Windows 8 tablet will come with a price tag of around $500 excluding VAT.
Nokia is the biggest Windows Phone device manufacturer and it has a special relationship with Microsoft. Furthermore, Microsoft has just invested a great deal in acquiring most of the Finnish company, and launching a top-notch Nokia Windows 8 tablet would make sense.
Tablets of all sorts, brands and sizes have flooded the market and the trend seems only to be moving forward. If Nokia and Microsoft want to remain competitive, they have to up their game and start offering something more than what they currently have in their lineup.
Nokia's WP8 handsets may be pretty popular, but the company would undoubtedly attract many more customers if it offered Full HD smartphones, phablets and tablets with high-end specs and top-notch performance. A Windows 8 tablet would surely stir quite some interest.
Microsoft is also reportedly gearing up to launch its second-generation Surface RT and Surface Pro, while Nokia is also speculated to have a Lumia 1520 phablet up its sleeve. Until official confirmation, however, it all remains in the rumor state.
