The Nokia Lumia 520 in Canada seems to be next in line to get the much-awaited Amber update, as it will reportedly be available through various carriers soon.
Nokia is apparently making good on its promise to release the Amber update for most of its Lumia devices worldwide. After news that the Lumia 920 on EE UK was getting the new update, the GDR2/Nokia Amber update now seems all set to hit the Lumia 520 in Canada.
According to a new WPCentral report, Nokia and its carrier partners in Canada are now in the final stages of testing for releasing the GDR2/Amber update.
"Looking at Nokia's support page, we can see updates for the Lumia 520 on Chatr Wireless, Koodoo, PC Mobile, Rogers and Telus have all switched from 'Waiting for approval' to 'Coming soon'. That means last minute preparations and the updates should flow within the next 24 to 48 hours," explains the publication.
The update for the Lumia 620, meanwhile, is listed as "Waiting for approval" for Koodo and "Available" for Telus. The update is also listed as "Available" for the Lumia 920 on Telus.
Nokia's Amber update is set to bring a number of new features and enhancements, including an improved image processing, a flip to silence feature, FM radio, call and SMS blocking, Lumia color profile and Nokia Smart camera. Microsoft's general distribution 2 (GDR2), meanwhile, will fix the Other storage issue and will bring improvements to Xbox Music and other features.
The Nokia Lumia 520 is a Windows Phone 8 smartphone belonging to the mid-range sector. It sports a 4-inch IPS LCD display with a WVGA (800 x 480) resolution and a pixel density of 235 pixels per inch (ppi). It packs a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1GHz and 512MB of RAM under the hood.
It comes with 8GB of internal storage capacity, expandable up to 64GB via microSD, and also has 7GB of free cloud storage space. Other specs include a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1,430 mAh removable battery with a 16-day standby time. Check out Nokia's product page for the Lumia 520 for a full list of specs and features. The smartphone has been quite popular with consumers and the new Amber update should come as welcome news.
