Some recent rumors suggested that Sony has an Xperia Z1 Mini in the works and now some specifications have leaked for the smaller version of the flagship.
The purported Sony Xperia Z1 Mini is expected to sport a 4.3-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and come with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board.
The news comes from the Xperia Blog, which believes the leak may potentially originate from NTT DoCoMo. The leaked image shows the Japanese specifications of the Sony Xperia Z1 (SO-01F), along with another handset listed as the Sony Xperia Z1 f (SO-02F). The new Sony device listed here may be the "Honami Mini," that has consistently appeared in rumors ever since the Xperia Z1 was announced. Before the official unveiling, the Xperia Z1 was dubbed the Sony "Honami."
As the Xperia Blog duly notes, this brochure may very well turn out to be fake. On the other hand, it does fall in line with previous NTT DoCoMo documentation. The leak details the specs of the purported Xperia Z1 Mini, comparing them against those of the Xperia Z1, and it even provides an image of the smartphone. According to said image, the Xperia Z1 Mini will be available in black, white, pink and yellow color options.
Moving over to the actual spec sheet, the purported Xperia Z1 Mini will apparently boast the same quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.2GHz as the original Xperia Z1. The smaller version of the flagship would also sport a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720, 16GB of internal storage capacity, 2GB of RAM, a high-end 20.7-megapixel camera as the one found on the Xperia Z1, and a 2.2-megapixel front-facing shooter. The smartphone would also have a 2,300 mAh battery and come with IP55/IP58 certification for dust- and water-resistance.
Smaller versions of flagship handsets typically come with some downgraded specs to accommodate a lower price tag, but the purported Xperia Z1 Mini doesn't seem to sacrifice anything. If these leaked specifications turn out to be the real deal, the "Honami Mini" will be a real powerhouse, with very little compromises compared to the Xperia Z1.
On the other hand, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is, so take this leak with a healthy dose of skepticism. Sony has not announced a Xperia Z1 Mini yet, but we'll keep you updated if more information becomes available.
