Nokia will reportedly launch a new Windows Phone 8 (WP8) device in November: the Lumia 525, codenamed "Glee."
The Nokia Lumia 520 has been the top-selling Windows Phone handset so far. In fact, the smartphone has also been the best-selling Windows device altogether.
Earlier reports indicated that Nokia is planning to launch a Lumia 929 smartphone in November, but it now seems that a Lumia 525 Windows Phone 8 handset will be making its debut in the same month, perhaps at the very same event.
Famous tipster @evleaks has now revealed that the upcoming Nokia Glee will be officially called the Nokia Lumia 525.
"Nokia Glee = Lumia 525," reads a brief Sept. 30 tweet from the reliable leakster, who is usually on the spot when it comes to yet-to-be-announced devices.
Nokia is widely expected to unveil six new devices at an Oct. 22 event it is holding in Abu Dhabi. The upcoming lineup includes the much-rumored Lumia 1520 WP8 phablet and Lumia 2520 (Sirius) tablet running on Windows RT.
If @evleaks' information is not convincing enough, The Verge senior reporter and founder of WinRumors Tom Warren adds more weight to the rumor. Warren has confirmed that Nokia Glee will make its debut as a low-end handset mainly designed for music.
Moreover, Warren further claims that the Nokia Glee will be even more important for Windows Phone than the much-touted Nokia 1520 phablet. Considering that the Lumia 520 has raked in the highest market share in low-end markets such as India, Warren may well be right with this supposition.
The Nokia Lumia 525 (Glee) will not be a top-end device, but it is expected to launch with the latest Windows Phone 8 OS version and perhaps even rock the GDR3 update. If it repeats the success of the Lumia 520, it will likely sell millions of units worldwide and significantly boost Windows Phone's market share.
Currently there is no information available regarding the specifications of the purported Lumia 525. If reports prove to be true and the device will debut in November, however, more details will likely become available shortly. We'll keep you updated as soon as we learn more.
