Google launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Nexus 5, a few weeks back, and it's now making its way to various Canadian carriers.
The Nexus 5 is not just available from the Google Play store, as the new smartphone is up for grabs from many carriers and retailers as well. In the U.S., interested customers will be able to get it from Sprint and T-Mobile. In Canada, meanwhile, major carriers are also on board with Google's latest flagship, as are various retailers.
Canadian customers will be able to score Google's latest flagship smartphone from Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Fido, Videotron, Virgin and Koodo Mobile. Most carriers are offering the Nexus 5 for C$500, while subsidies start at C$49.95 with a two-year contract, going up all the way to $200.
Videotron, for instance, is offering the Nexus 5 for $49.95 on a two-year contract. Rogers, TELUS, Bell, and Virgin are selling the same smartphone for $99.99 on-contract, while Fido is charging $200 on a two-year contract, a considerably higher price tag compared to other carriers. Koodo Mobile is selling the Nexus 5 for $500 outright. SaskTel and WIND Mobile are not yet offering the smartphone online.
Because the Nexus 5 seems to be in great demand already, Google and LG may once again face troubles keeping up. Last year's Nexus 4 was barely in stock, as the two companies were overwhelmed by demand. By the look of things, the new flagship may pose the same issue. Initial supply of the Nexus 5 already seems to be tightening in the U.S., the UK and Canada, with shipment dates pushed back on Google Play depending on the models. In this case, purchasing the handset from a carrier may prove to be faster, albeit more expensive.
For those unfamiliar with Google's latest flagship, the LG-made Nexus 5 comes with a 4.95-inch display with a full HD 1080p resolution, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26GHz, and 2GB of RAM. Other specs include an 8-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), 16GB and 32GB internal storage configurations, and a 2,300 mAh battery.
The Nexus 5 is also the first device to rock Android 4.4 KitKat, the very latest version of Google's popular mobile operating system.
