The LG G Flex smartphone with a curved display may be ready to debut in the U.S., as an image of the AT&T and T-Mobile versions has leaked.
LG launched its flexible display smartphone in the second half of 2013 in South Korea, but the device is expected to make its way to other markets soon as well. Thanks to a newly-leaked image from a trusted tipster, it now seems that the LG G Flex is headed to AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S.
The image in question popped up on Twitter on Thursday, Jan. 2, courtesy of the reliable @evleaks. The photo shows the AT&T LG G Flex on the left, accompanied by the T-Mobile version on the right. Other than the carriers' respective networks shown on the display of the smartphone, the LG G Flex looks identical for both operators.
For those unfamiliar with the device, the LG G Flex comes with a 6-inch curved display that has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Unlike Samsung's Galaxy Round flexible display smartphone, which curves from side to side, the LG G Flex' display curves vertically from top to bottom.
The smartphone packs a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor under the hood, coupled with Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM. Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter. The handset runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.
Aside from its powerful internals and flexible display, the LG G Flex has another neat trick up its sleeve: it boasts a self-healing coating, which automatically repairs the fine scratches of everyday use.
The LG G Flex was already expected to make its debut on Sprint's network, and with this newly-leaked image it seems that it will make its way to three of the largest U.S. carriers. It remains uncertain at this point whether Verizon Wireless will also start offering the LG G Flex sometime in the future.
There are no details at this point as to when the LG G Flex will launch on AT&T or T-Mobile, nor how much it will cost. LG has yet to make an official announcement, so for the time being it is advisable to take things with a grain of salt. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
