Samsung banks on variety and likes to offer a slew of devices for all tastes and budgets, and the company has now launched a Galaxy Tab 3 Lite.
As you may have noticed, Samsung has never been too shy when it comes to flooding the market with all sorts of devices that fill all niches, as the company wants to offer something for everyone. Just nine months after unveiling no less than three Galaxy Tab 3 models with 7-, 8-, and 10-inch displays, Samsung is now offering a "Lite" version of the smallest model.
"Samsung Electronics introduced Galaxy Tab3 Lite (7"), combining the intuitive experience of the Galaxy Tab3 series with a slimmer, more portable design," touts the press release on Thursday, Jan. 16. "Packed with enhanced features and services, the Galaxy Tab3 Lite (7") provides users a variety of ways to capture, view, listen, create, and share content with others without compromising value."
The existing Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 already sports an attractive price tag of under $150 and the new "Lite" model has very similar specs, so the only explanation for this new model would be if it would cost significantly less. For now, however, Samsung has not offered any details regarding the price or launch date for its new Galaxy Tab 3 Lite.
In terms of specifications, the "Lite" version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is nearly identical to the older variant. It packs the same dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM, the same 8GB of internal storage capacity with a microSD card slot for additional memory, and the same 7-inch display with a 1024 x 600 resolution.
On the other hand, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite ditches the front-facing camera and the side-mounted IR blaster, and drops the rear camera to just 2 megapixels. The battery, meanwhile, is 10 percent smaller, resting at 3,600 mAh. The slate will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz UX on top, and will be available in Wi-Fi and 3G variants.
It remains unclear at this point just why Samsung thought that a Galaxy Tab 3 Lite would be necessary, but the tablet could see some success if it retails for under $100. Samsung said that it wants to focus on tablets in 2014, but would this new Galaxy Tab 3 Lite help drive sales of the company's slates?
