LG has been stepping up its game recently, and the company reportedly plans to launch the LG G3 With a QHD display in mid-May 2014.
In an increasingly competitive smartphone market, LG has not only managed to stay relevant, but it also drew plenty of attention with its latest offerings. First of all, the company built the last two Nexus handsets, both of which proved to be widely successful. Second, LG designed its high-end LG G2 flagship with a unique concept that moved the power button and volume rocker to the rear of the device for extra comfort and a better grip. Last but not least, the company launched its G G Flex curved-display smartphone that not only boasts a flexible display and some impressive specs and features, but also rocks a self-healing back plate that automatically fills small scratches and scuffs that normmally occur from daily use.
The rumor mill, however, never stops churning, and the latest tidbit centers on the upcoming LG G3, which will reportedly debut in May, after the launch of the LG G Pro 2. According to a new report from the Korean Media (via G4Games), the new LG G3 will launch on May 17, boasting a high-end touchscreen display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560. The purported launch date is reportedly set this early because LG wants to challenge the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is expected to launch in March or April.
The next-generation LG G3 will reportedly have a 5.5-inch display, which would mark a slight increase compared to the 5.2-inch panel on the current flagship. Previous reports pointed to a 5.5-inch screen as well for the next flagship, and also claimed that the G3 would pack LG's own Odin octa-core processor.
The report further mentions that the LG G3 would launch after the LG G Pro 2 makes its debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February. The LG G Pro 2 will reportedly sport a large 5.9-inch display with the same 1,440 x 2560 resolution. Some reports claim that it will go on sale in February, while others say it will hit commercial availability sometime in April.
If this report proves to be correct, LG will challenge Samsung to the core by launching a QHD smartphone. Until the company makes an official announcement, however, it is highly advisable to take all such rumors, leaks and reports with a hefty grain of salt.
