The Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 Windows Phone smartphones are in for a treat, as the Lumia Black update is rolling out now.
Nokia has been making notable progress recently, boosting the Windows Phone market share and bumping up its offerings. The company has released several new devices, but it has not forgotten about its previous hardware. Nokia has been providing new firmware updates for its existing devices and the Lumia Black update is now available for both the Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720.
Nokia's Lumia Black update for its Windows Phone smartphones has started to roll out in early January for higher-end devices such as the Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925. The update has also recently rolled out for the Lumia 525, and its journey continues to the lower-end of Nokia's Windows Phone lineup.
The company has now confirmed that the Lumia Black update has started to roll out to the Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 720, bringing notable improvements and the Windows Phone Update 3 (GDR3) along with it.
On the Windows Phone front, the improvements include support for Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (LE), a screen rotation lock, as well as the option to close apps directly from the app switcher menu.
In terms of Nokia software, the Lumia Black update comes with Nokia Storyteller and Driving mode, both of which have proved to be really popular among users. However, the Lumia 520 and Lumia 720 will not support all of Nokia's software goodies, as the two handsets will miss out on Nokia Beamer, Nokia Refocus and other such apps that require at least 1GB of RAM.
As always, the update will roll out in phases, which means that it may take some time to reach all devices. According to PhonesReview, the update is already available for some users in India. If you can't wait for the update notification, you can always choose to manually check whether it's ready for your handset. To do so, access your phone's Settings menu and select Phone update.
For full instructions on how to install the update, as well as the full list of new features that come with Lumia Black, check out Nokia's support page for the update at this link.
