The budget-friendly Motorola Moto G has made its way to U.S. Cellular as well, available now for $99 on a prepaid connection, contract-free.
The Moto G is one of the most affordable smartphones currently available on the market and it sports some neat specifications for its sub-$100 price tag. Motorola designed the handset as a more affordable alternative to its flagship Moto X, and it stirred plenty of interest. While most cheap phones offer meager specs and features and run old(er) OS versions, the Moto G rocks the latest Android 4.4 KitKat.
The Moto G has been available in the U.S. for more than a month, and now U.S. Cellular is joining the party. The carrier has started selling the Moto G online for $99 after rebates, which is the same price Verizon Wireless is charging for the device.
The original price of the Moto G is listed as $189.99, but U.S. Cellular is offering a discount of $90 for new customers, bringing the price down to $99. Interested buyers can now pick up a Moto G with one of U.S. Cellular's No Contract plans, which offer unlimited talk, text, and data for $50 per month.
The inexpensive smartphone will come with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, which is an impressive achievement for a handset in this category, especially considering that there are several high-end flagships out there who still run Android Jelly Bean.
U.S. Cellular is currently offering the 8GB Moto G, and it remains unclear at this point whether the carrier will add the 16GB variant as well sometime in the future.
In terms of specs, the budget Moto G comes with a 4.5-inch HD LCD display with 720p resolution, a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage capacity, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSPA+, and GPS.
The U.S. Cellular Moto G is apparently available for purchase for $99 only online for now, but Android Central claims that it will go on sale in-store as well in just a couple of days, on Feb. 10.
