ZTE has big plans for the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, where it will show off "a range of high-performance smartphones and innovative products."
The company pledged to focus on delivering a superior user experience and is poised to launch "brand new dynamic devices," which include the 6-inch, ultra-slim ZTE Grand Memo II LTE, a new ZTE Open C, one of the first devices running Firefox OS 1.3, as well as and a new MiFavor 2.3 user interface.
"This year, we are looking to work even more closely with our customers worldwide to develop the products they want and deliver a superior customer experience," touts Adam Zeng, CEO of ZTE Mobile Devices and Executive Vice President of ZTE Corporation, in the press release on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
"They have told us that they want even more innovative and high-performance products, so at MWC 2014 we are delivering this with the launch of two new high-profile devices, the ultra slim Grand Memo II LTE with 6 inch screen and the ZTE Open C in partnership with Mozilla and Telefonica. We expect 2014 to be our strongest year yet - and we're putting our customers at the heart of everything we do to help us achieve that."
In other words, we don't know much about the ZTE Grand Memo successor, other than it will be "ultra thin," sport a 6-inch display, and have LTE support. The original ZTE Grand Memo came with a 5.7-inch 720p HD display and packed a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. The phablet shipped with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, had a large 3,200 mAh battery, and featured a high-end 13-megapixel camera. The ZTE Grand Memo II LTE should boast some notable improvements over its predecessor, and its 6-inch display may finally get full HD resolution.
The device will likely pack the same Snapdragon 800 processor, but may boost the clock speed to 2.3GHz. It may also bump it up to a heftier 3GB of RAM and more internal storage capacity, and ZTE will likely also opt for a newer Android version. The Grand Memo II will stick with ZTE' MiFavor custom user interface, likely the new UI version set to debut at MWC.
The press-release ahead of MWC further mentions a Firefox OS 1.3 smartphone, which will launch as the ZTE Open C. Other than its name and operating system, however, no additional details are currently available regarding this device. The original ZTE Open launched as the first Firefox OS smartphone and came with a budget price of $79.99, and its successor is expected to be affordable as well.
Lastly, ZTE will also be showcasing other mobile devices at the show, including the Grand S II flagship smartphone, the ZTE Blade series, as well as the Nubia series, which includes the new Nubia 5S and Nubia 5S Mini. As ZTE boasts in the press release, back in December the Nubia 5S and Nubia 5S Mini outsold all other phones, including those from Apple, Samsung, and Nokia, at popular online store Jingdong.com.
Other goodies ZTE has in store for MWC include the ZTE Projector Hotspot, which combines a mini projector and a Wi-Fi hotspot, as well as the ZTE Grand Watch Smart Watch.
