The Tesla Autopilot function was meant to be used only on divided highways. However, owners started using them on undivided highways, performing a slew of stunts that were being recorded on cams. This did not go down well with CEO Elon Musk who imposed the cap on the Autopilot speed limit.

Up to now, Tesla’s Autopilot division was headed on an interim basis by software chief Jinnah Hosein of SpaceX. Chris Lattner, who has been with Apple for more than a decade, has now joined Tesla as the vice president of its Autopilot software.
The new Autopilot system will cost $5,000 for new Tesla owners. The enhanced Autopilot mode will allow the Tesla EV to automatically change lanes, match speed to traffic conditions, park itself and merge on and off highways.
